[ And then takes a step forward, her face softening. ]
That's why we're out here in the first place. Dreamers are supposed to help one another, aren't we? We're all in this together.
You can't tell us anything more... for now, that's okay. But I hope some day you can. Whatever's going on... no one should have to shoulder anything alone.
[ Maybe she's being optimistic, wanting to believe Crimson doesn't actually mean anything bad. But it's just who she is. She wants to extend the branch of good will. ]
D-Tune can't help but snort as Bishop makes his comment about Crimson doing a proper report. She's sure that had Crimson actually wanted to, she would have. A long time ago. To Sam, this means that Crimson doesn't want the DU involved in her business here...or they would be.
To her, it's only logical.
"I gotta say, there are too many questions that aren't answered for anyone to leave you completely alone. I know Chaosbringer's like a terrier--he's not gonna give until he's got the answers he wants. Though what those are...well."
Sam has to shrug at that, because even she's not sure. But she's curious, or else she wouldn't be here, to be honest.
[ Waves. The gentle rhythm of water lapping at your back.
As the group stirs, they find themselves laying in the waters of a shallow ocean that expands out seemingly infinitely in all directions. The moon's glow pours out across the water, tinging it and the lilies blooming from the sand a pale gold. Strange as everything here is, to Chaosbringer, at least, this place will seem familiar.
[Why does it feel like they're waking up when they're still dreaming?
There's a splash as Tycoon abruptly gets up into a defensive crouch, tail puffed up and ears standing on alert as his Sandglass weapons appear in his hands. He's tensed and ready for combat but it doesn't take long for the stillness of their environment to bring his guard down again]
Where... are we? [he turns to look around for his fellow Dreamers] Chaosbringer...? D-Tune?
[That probably isn't what either of them hoped to hear out of Chaosbringer as he quickly flails to his feet, weapon already out as if drawing it was instinctual.]
I was hoping we'd avoid this place, but since we're here, can you guys remember this? Coming here, ever? Walking through a door?
Shit?? [That makes Sam stare at Zeke, even as she rolls to get to her feet. It's extra awkward, because why is she wearing Chaosbringer's outfit? Save for a belt that wraps around her chest, because no. She doesn't have the pecs that he does, frankly.
At least she's managed to figure it out enough that she's not flashing the boys.]
No, I've been to a couple really weird places before, but...not like this.
Eh? [seeing Chaosbringer flail jump to his feet causes Tycoon to tense up again. The only time he's seen the older man look this ruffled was for that Nightmare they fought back in February]
N-no...? [he looks around, nervous] Nothing like this. The only thing I can think of like this were the Disturbances...
[Chaosbringer, by the way, is looking absolutely fabulous in D-Tune's armor. Sure, he feels like a sardine, but now's not the time to worry about it at all.]
[Sam's expression turns to one of shock, then.] This? This is the place you told me about? Invisible Doorsville?
[Someone else might come up with a snappier name, but Sam is not that person.]
You never did say...did you try a door when you were here?
[There's a part of her that wants to do exactly that and see what happens, but she does know that you never split the party, especially not when she's...well. Normally she is the healer, but maybe this time, she's the tank??!
[Tycoon looks between the two of them, confused (for a number of reasons), before looking out at the ocean around them]
Doors...?
[it looks rather empty to him, if he's being honest. But if they're meant to be invisible, that does make sense... It's so quiet here though, and he's not sure what they're meant to be doing here. Not when Chaosbringer himself seems so worked up (a scary fact in it's own right). He looks at the water at their feet and the lilies growing out of the sand. It's probably coincidence, but it's hard not to be reminded of Amane's Disturbance...]
So do we have to figure out which one we need to go through?
All right. [Chaosbringer exhales, sharply.] I didn't start remembering anything until we actually revealed the doors. As soon as I saw them, it hit me that I'd been through them before -- every time I came hunting for Crimson, I'd picked one, and then forgot it.
Thing is, getting them to show up attracted the attention of the thing we're out here trying to learn about, and that's the last thing I want to do. We bailed as soon as its presence got serious, and I almost couldn't wake up.
Zeke? You didn't tell me about that! [Well. Technically, he just did. But Sam still feels like she has a right to be a little mad.]
So if we can't go through doors, what do we do? I...I don't remember going through any doors when I went looking for Crimson, but she kind of...pretty much found us, I guess.
Last time I saw her was right before Hanako...
[D-Tune gestures unhappily, she doesn't want to voice anything about Hanako's Disturbance. Don't need to tempt fate or court bad luck...]
[he doesn't unsummon his weapon, but he does put them back together into their Single Blade form. He steps over and crouches down to pick one of the lilies from the ground while Chaosbringer and D-Tune talk. Once again, he's still the most inexperienced of the three... Better to let them figure out a plan of action]
[ When the flower is plucked, a ripple fans out - hugely out of proportion to what triggered it and as it spreads out, all the others sway gently in its wake. A breeze gusts through, plucking at your hair as it passes...
But nothing sinister happens. Nothing you can tell, anyway. ]
[he looks at their surroundings, then at the lily in his hand before tucking it away in a spur of the moment decision]
Um... So what happened the last time you were here, Zeke-san? ['Chaosbringer' is both too long and a little too difficult to say, so 'Zeke' it is] Maybe we should replicate it?
[Keiwa no Tycoon doesn't know any better, sshhhhhhh]
The last time, I noticed something was weird, whipped out the ol' zapping, and managed to knock a jolly heck of a lot of doors out of invisibility. Trying to avoid that this time, because it got the things' attention way too quick.
[Rousing it is the last thing he wants to do. Instead, he crouches down, looking for oddities in the water.]
Look for distortions, weirdness. That sort of stuff.
Isn't it weird that the ripple doesn't seem to be... stopping? It continues to resonate outwards from the flower Tycoon touched, long past the point it should have lost momentum.
[Sam might be a bit calmer if this wasn't all weird to start with. If it didn't remind her of too much weird stuff. She's not happy. If mama ain't happy, as they say...]
Why do I suddenly feel like a piece of tackle waiting for a big fish to come up and eat me? That reminds me of the worst of Pops' bait-ripples way back when he'd take me fishing when I was a little girl...
[Sam is still fairly young, sure, as these things go, but she's been Daddy's little disappointment for a while now, too...]
I assume it's when you toss bait in and it ripples. In this case, we're the bait.
[Though Zeke watches the water with a frown, and then carefully sloshes a little more with one foot. Not anything dramatic, just another attempt to watch the ripple spread. Last time they'd spotted the odd distortion in the water's movement left by invisible doors, after all.]
[If she's honest, Sam's surprised it translated so well, but either way, she'll explain it.]
Half like that. [She nods to Zeke, then.] The other half is when you've got live bait, like a minnow or something, and it thrashes so it's rippling to attract a big fish.
We're trying to attract a big fish. [Or, that's what it feels like to Sam, at least. Though here, it's a bit more ominous than it was back when she was fishing with her old man.]
[his ears are just pressing themselves to the top of his head, giving away Tycoon's honest feelings about this, even as he stammers a noise of understanding out. You know, he was really hoping it wasn't what it sounded like!
But if they're meant to be bait...]
Do you think any sort of attack will cause the doors to appear? If electricity is too flashy, maybe just small projectiles will work?
