That's totally fine! We have a few characters in game who are in a similar situation and they've all stuck to just using the characters as they are. On the off chance someone did decide to app him, I would imagine you guys would want to chat and coordinate AU details anyway but if it does happen they have AU plans that clash with yours, I would probably just bend the 'no duplicates' rule to accommodate you both.
