During their Excursion, Sonic's group come across... a new location!
As the dream comes into stability around them, the group finds they've ended up in a once-glorious city now submerged in a murky, endless sea... though of course, with this being the Dream Sphere, chances are good this place came into existence already looking old and busted. The ruins of towering skyscrapers and ancient temples jut out from the water like broken teeth, their surfaces slick with algae and covered in eerie bioluminescent moss that casts an unsettling glow. The water is a dark, sickly green, with visibility limited to just a few feet. The city’s architecture stands twisted and decayed, with crumbling facades and twisted metal structures perfect for doing some sick parkour if you happen to be so inclined. It's also infested with Torments - enormous airborne eels with razor-sharp teeth and bioluminescent bodies, towering creatures are made of stone, coral, and barnacles and just to spice things up, the group might catch glimpses of enormous shadows moving beneath the surface, some oceanic monstrosities patrolling their drowned domain.
Unfortunately, navigating the city is all kinds of treacherous. The water is teeming with dangerous currents, and the ruins themselves are unstable, with floors that can give way at any moment - Chaosbringer predictably falls prey to an unsteady ledge just as he's declaring how well things seem to be going, leaving Sonic and Rhodonite to fend for themselves.
And for the most part, they do a good job! Sonic's speed and reflexes helps keep the two out of any environmental danger and Rhodonite's bangin' tunes do a great job in beating back the Torments that threaten to overwhelm them. Unfortunately, the two of them together aren't quite strong enough to stand up to the enormous Nightmare that eventually emerges from under the water! With a massive body that seems to stretch for hundreds of feet, long, serpentine tendrils tipped with barbed hooks and a huge mouth lined with rows of jagged, razor-sharp teeth, this would be a challenge even for a much larger group, let alone two Dreamers!
The two of them put up an incredible fight and manage to find some surprise synergy between their powers... but the Nightmare proves to have the home turf advantage and eventually washes both of them away in a huge tidal wave that sends them splashing back to the Waking World.
Our condolences on your Excursion failure! Every member of the group will be unable to return to the Dream Sphere for three days to one week following this Excursion and will find a nasty cough lingers in the Waking World for up to a week afterwards. As this was an Excursion failure, you are not eligible for any additional rewards but if the group seeks out this location again to take out this Nightmare, they will be eligible for a Torment Hunt Bounty bonus. Additionally, you may still use this as the basis for a log/thread if you please and any threads that meet bonus criteria there are still eligible for submission.
