1. Yup, that's fine! Everyone gets a weapon by default just so Dreamers who enter the game without combat specific powers have SOMETHING to use in a fight. You can handle this as him channeling energy through it or something similar (similar to how Ai uses hers as a mic, ig?). But of course, he will die immediately in the Dream Sphere and also in real life should he get so much as a bruise off a Torment after dropping it.
2. That would also be fine! So long as it doesn't massively change its utility in system-based battles, I don't see a issue with that.

Since Signatures are how Nightmares get fully purified it would be ideal for him to have some sort of 'attack' phase where he makes contact but we can also just handwave that going Super makes his attacks have a purifying effect on Nightmares if you'd rather play it like that! Off the top of Claire's sleep deprived head, my suggestion would be something like 'goes Super for 3 turns, gets associated buffs & attacks do purifying damage on nightmare but aren't a guaranteed kill' but obvs feel free to go with what your heart desires.
